leslie speakers

Born to enhance the Hammond
“Leslie” is a brand name that became synonimous with the rotary speaker introduced in the ’40s, and that from the ’50s onward found widespread success. The name comes from its inventor: Donald “Don” Leslie, who created the Leslie to complement the sound of the Hammond organ.
The Hammond organ was originally proposed by its inventor Laurens Hammond as a substitute of the pipe organ. Don Leslie thought that a rotating deflector placed in front of the loudspeaker would improve the sound, thanks to a Doppler effect.
